First Solar remains number 1 PV module supplier in US
Nov 4, 2013 - US First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) was still the top module supplier to the US market in the 12 months to end-September 2013, while China’s Yingli Green Energy Holding (NYSE:YGE) took the second place from SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR).
In its photovoltaic (PV) module tracker report released last week, market analyst NPD Solarbuzz said that three more Chinese solar modules suppliers -- Trina Solar Ltd (NYSE:TSL), Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ) and ReneSola Ltd (NYSE:SOL) -- ranked fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in terms of module shipments to the US.
Globally, Yingli, Trina Solar and Canadian Solar were the top three PV module suppliers between October 2012 and September 2013. Yingli alone may soon book 3 GW of 12-month shipments, a record for the industry, Solarbuzz said.
The top 20 PV module suppliers still hold a share of more than 70% in most markets. China is an exception as the big 20's share there is only 50% due to the domestic focus of tier 2 and tier 3 Chinese module producers. NPD Solarbuzz projects that Yingli, Trina Solar, Canadian Solar, First Solar, Jinko and Renesola will all report record PV shipments for the third quarter of 2013.
