First Solar puts off commissioning of Vietnam factory
Nov 4, 2011 - US solar module maker First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) yesterday said it had decided to delay the roll-out of its 50 MW solar module factory in Vietnam as part of the consolidation of its production capacity plan.
The commissioning of the Vietnam plant will be put off until global supply and demand dynamics support further capacity, the company said.
First Solar will continue developing its plant in Arizona in order to supply photovoltaic (PV) modules for its 2.7 GW project pipeline in North America.
The company expects its average production throughput to increase to 70 MW per production line a year by the end of 2012, from 63.5 MW per line in the third quarter of 2011 thanks to the programmes it initiated to improve its production process and the conversion efficiency increase achieved in the third quarter. During the past quarter, it managed to boost the average conversion efficiency for all production lines to 11.8% from 11.7% in the second quarter.
