First Solar, Belectric start installation of 46-MW solar plant in UK
Nov 7, 2014 - US company First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) and its German partner Belectric GmbH have initiated construction of a 46-MW direct current (DC) solar plant in Oxfordshire, southern England.
First Solar said in a statement yesterday that this is its fourth UK project with solar systems developer Belectric. It will expand the portfolio of the two parties’ joint venture to 80 MW DC. Together, these plants are estimated to produce nearly 80 million kWh of electricity per year.
As per the new project, it will comprise over 483,000 of First Solar’s advanced thin-film panels installed on agricultural land. They will have the combined capacity to generate 45 million kWh annually, enough to power around 14,000 average households. The German firm will be the one to build the facility.
The parties anticipate to complete the plant in the coming months.
