January 24 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's Mato Grosso do Sul state gave on Tuesday an environmental license authorising the construction of a 50-MW eucalyptus-based biomass power plant.
Located in the city of Tres Lagoas, the project will require investments of BRL 320 million (USD 85.1m/EUR 74.8m). Local company Eldorado Brasil is in charge of it and plans to start construction works in March.
The facility will be the first eucalyptus-based biomass plant to enter operation in Mato Grosso do Sul. The project will help further diversify the use of the forest residues, such as leaves, roots and bark in the region, the local government noted.
