Eren RE plans more LatAm projects after Argentina auction win

France's Eren Renewable Energy (Eren RE) confirmed today it has secured a 97.2-MW wind project in Argentina’s recently completed energy tender, and said it has plans for more installations in the region.

The Viento Los Hercules park, originally developed by local wind company EoliaSur, will produce as much as 440 GWh annually. It will be built in Santa Cruz province in the south of Argentina.

Eren said this is its first wind project in the Americas, while it has experience in solar and storage. In three to five years, the company aims to build over 500 MW of capacity in Latin America, commented Fabienne Demol, head of business development of EREN RE.

Seventeen projects representing 1,109 MW of capacity won contracts in the first tender round of Argentina's renewable energy programme, RenovAR. Wind and solar projects with combined capacities of 708 MW and 400 MW, respectively, won the right to sign long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Cammesa (Wholesale Electricity Market Administration Company).

Bidding for an additional 600 MW is planned for November.
