EPC, services tenders start for 50-MW Omani wind project

Nov 11, 2014 - The tender process has started for the provision of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) as well as legal and technical advisory services for Oman’s 50-MW Dhofar wind project, a tender notice showed in the weekend.

The farm in Dhofar governate will have up to 25 turbines. In October, Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy firm Masdar and Omani state-owned Rural Areas Electricity Co (RAECO) signed a deal to jointly develop the project. It is calling for an investment of USD 125 million (EUR 100.5m).

The Dhofar wind farm is expected to produce enough electricity to meet the annual needs of some 16,000 local households, avoiding the emission of about 110,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year.

Wind power will account for about 7% of the total installed generation capacity in the Dhofar region when the power plant is finalised, Masdar said recently.
