Engie, Sungevity push for solar in Belgium

Engie Electrabel, the Belgian unit of French utility Engie (EPA:ENGI) on Tuesday announced it chose US solar power firm Sungevity to launch a joint solar power offering in Belgium.

The co-branded rooftop solar offering will be marketed by Engie Electrabel while Sungevity will provide all aspects of sales, design, installation and maintenance of its energy systems to customers.

"Engie has embarked on a profound transformation with ambitions to lead the energy transition," Philippe Van Troeye, CEO of Engie Benelux said in a press release.

Engie Electrabel shares this ambition and wants to bring it closer to its 2.8 million clients, he added.

According to calculations of the Belgian company , installing solar panels on the roof can bring annual savings of EUR 500 from the elcectricity bill in Flanders or achieve up to 11% return on investment.

In Wallonia, solar panel owners can get up to 17% return on investment or EUR 1,200 average savings per year while in Brussels they can save up to EUR 1,400 per year by 2017 and EUR 1,000 from 2018 on, achieving return on investment of up to 10%.
