December 9 (Renewables Now) - The Portuguese unit of France’s Engie SA (EPA:ENGI) has acquired solar energy company Ikaros Hemero along with a project pipeline of over 50 MWp, local media reported on Saturday.

Ikaros operates exclusively in the corporate segment in Portugal, where it holds about 10% of the market with over 30 MWp installed and more than 20 MWp under management.

Engie Portugal said in a statement it regards  the acquisition as a strategic step to position itself as a “leader in decentralised solar energy in Portugal”. The company's CEO, Pedro Cruz, added that Ikaros Hemera will continue to install turnkey PV systems, but will add to its offering integrated solutions that may include investment, maintenance and optimization of installations as well.

After the merger, the founder and current CEO of Ikaros Hemera Duarte Caro de Sousa will continue managing the business.
