Aug 10, 2012 - Enfinity Philippines Renewable Resources (EPRR), a unit of Belgian solar firm Enfinity Corp, is awaiting government approval for service contracts for 11 proposed solar projects with a total capacity of 53 MW in the country.
The projects range in capacity from 1 MW to 20 MW, daily Philippine Inquirer reported on Wednesday, citing data from the Department of Energy (DOE).
A renewable energy service contract is a service agreement between the Philippine government via the DOE and a renewable energy developer that gives the latter the exclusive right for exploration and development in a given area for a certain period.
At present, Enfinity has two service contracts for a 50-MW and a 30-MW solar project in the Philippines, according to the newspaper.
Last month, Philippine Inquirer said EPRR's president Dennis Ibarra had told the daily that Enfinity Corp would carry out its planned pipeline of 500 MW of solar projects in the Philippines despite lower-than-hoped feed-in tariffs (FiT). Earlier in July, the Philippines' Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) unveiled FiTs of PHP 9.68 (USD 0.23/EUR 0.19) per kWh for solar power, almost twice as low as the PHP-17.95 solar FiT proposed by the National Renewable Energy Board (NREB).
