German renewables developer Energiekontor AG (ETR:EKT) said on Tuesday it has officially opened a 10-MWp solar park in Brandenburg, northeastern Germany.
Located along a railway line in Garzau-Garzin municipality, the photovoltaic (PV) plant consists of 35,073 modules supplied by Hanwha Q Cells Co Ltd (NASDAQ:HQCL). Their output is expected to exceed 10 million kWh per year, which will be enough to supply around 3,000 homes and will save about 5,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. According to Energiekontor, it will be able to cover the entire power demand of the surrounding region with the generated electricity.
The plant is the first solar park that Energiekontor owns in Garzau-Garzin. Following its commissioning, the German firm owns wind and solar farms with a combined capacity of 270 MW. It noted in the statement that it is “in a position to implement wind farms and solar parks and achieve profitability, despite the increase in competition” thanks to a range of efficiency measures and efforts of equipment manufacturers to cut production costs.
