Enel wins deal for 93-MW wind park in Mexico

The Mexican renewables unit of Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) will build a 93-MW wind park in Tamaulipas state after winning a 15-year power supply deal in the country’s latest energy auction.

Enel Green Power Mexico expects to invest some USD 120 million (EUR 107m) in the construction of the Salitrillos wind farm in the municipality of Reynosa. The plant is expected to enter service by 2019.

Apart from the long-term power supply deal, Enel will also sign a 20-year contract under which it will sell the associated clean certificates to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). Upon completion, the Salitrillos wind farm will generate about 400 GWh of electricity per year.

Enel noted that it currently operates almost 500 MW of power plants in Mexico, including 446 MW of wind farms and 53 MW of hydropower facilities. Presently, it is building two wind parks with a combined capacity of 229 MW.
