July 22 (Renewables Now) - Italian electric utility Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) said on Wednesday that its 140-MW Oyster Bay wind farm in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa has reached commercial operation.
Through its local arm Enel Green Power RSA (EGP RSA), the company invested EUR 180 million (USD 212m) to build Oyster Bay. The wind park’s output is being sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with South African utility Eskom.
Oyster Bay, one of the five projects Enel secured in South Africa’s REIPPPP tender in April 2015, is expected to be able to generate more than 568 GWh of clean power per year.
With the new wind plant in operation, EGP RSA now operates over 800 MW of installed capacity between wind and solar farms in South Africa.
