The government of Brazil’s Rio Grande do Norte state has partnered up with Enel Green Power Brasil to study the expansion of the local transmission system.
The announcement was made on Monday after a meeting between the government officials and Enel Green Power representatives, including president Roberta Bonomi.
The study will be carried out by a workgroup formed by Enel and Rio Grande do Norte’s state secretariat for economic development, also known as Sedec. Through it, the state is looking to ensure that it has enough connections for future renewable energy projects.
At present, Enel Green Power has 81 hydro, wind and solar assets in its Brazilian portfolio. About 3.75 GW of capacity is already in operation in nine states, with some 2 GW under construction in Rio Grande do Norte alone.
