Enel Green Power connects 21 MW solar plants to Italian grid
Jul 1, 2013 - Italy's Enel Green Power (BIT:EGPW) has connected to the Italian grid two photovoltaic (PV) plants in the Campania region for a combined installed capacity of 21 MW, the renewables arm of energy group Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) said on Monday.
The two plants, in Borgo San Lazzaro and Spineto in the Salerno province, will be capable of producing at full capacity up to some 30 million kWh a year, meeting the needs of 15,000 local households and avoiding the emission of some 14,000 tonnes of CO2.
Both plants have been built with the thin-film photovoltaic panels produced at the Catania-based factory of 3Sun, the equal-share joint venture of Enel Green Power, Sharp (TYO:6753) and STMicroelectronics (EPA:STM).
The plants are located on plots of land used by the army which EGP won in a tender with the Italian Defence Ministry in November 2011, EGP said.
