(ADPnews) - Dec 23, 2010 - Solar power technology firm Emcore Corp (NASDAQ:EMKR) reported on Tuesday a net loss of USD 900,000 (EUR 684,000) for its fourth quarter to the end of September, compared with a loss of USD 13.5 million a year earlier.
Revenue grew to USD 54.1 million from USD 40.5 million. Of the total USD 19.7 million was generated by the photovoltaics (PV) division. The company also said it expects first-quarter revenues of USD 50 million to USD 53 million.
Operating loss in the fourth quarter stood at USD 1.8 million. Loss per share narrowed to USD 0.01 from USD 0.17.
On September 30, the order backlog amounted to USD 71.3 million, with USD 52.9 million coming from the PV unit.
In fiscal 2009/10 Emcore saw its net loss shrink to USD 23.7 million from USD 138.8 million the year before. The improvement was a result of enhanced margins and lower non-cash provisions and impairment charges.
Full-year revenue went up by 8% to USD 191.3 million, with the PV segment bringing sales of USD 69.6 million.
