Macquarie Infrastructure Debt Investment Solutions (MIDIS) is providing, on behalf of its investors, a EUR-67-million (USD 76.6m) debt facility to refinance 43 MWp of solar parks in Spain.
This was announced by Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX:MQG) on Wednesday.
Located in the south of Spain, the portfolio is owned by local firm Eliantus Energy and consists of 10 operational photovoltaic (PV) plants. The debt facility by MIDIS is comprised of fixed rate, senior secured bonds on a 23-year amortisation basis.
"Project Bonds have proved to be the way forward to finance solar infrastructure. Our first experience as issuers has been very positive thanks to alignment of interests with MIDIS and the help of Santander in the process of refinancing," said Eliantus CEO Adolfo Carvajal.
Back in June 2018, MIDIS made its first infrastructure debt investment in the Spanish solar market by helping Sonnedix Power Holdings Ltd refinance of a portfolio of 12 Spanish photovoltaic (PV) parks.
Since 2012, MIDIS has invested more than EUR 1.7 billion in infrastructure debt in renewables assets globally, with a combined installed capacity of approximately 4.7 GW, Macquarie noted.
