Bifacial solar modules have been installed at a test site in Ireland as part of a project between UK solar developer Elgin Energy, China’s LONGi Green Energy Technology Co Ltd (SHA:601012) and SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SEDG).
The panels at the test site on a dairy farm in Skeoughvosteen, County Kilkenny, will be monitored with SolarEdge's optimisers and monitoring software. The project will compare the energy output of bifacial panels in Ireland to monofacial panels. Bifacial panels have previously been shown to produce between 5% and 10% more than monofacial panels, according to the news release.
The test site was installed by local renewable firm Enerpower.
The project will provide data to inform the solar industry in Ireland and Elgin Energy's development in the country and the UK.
