Eletrobras signs MoU for 100 MW wind park in Uruguay
Jun 25, 2012 - Brazil's state-owned power holding company Eletrobras (SAO:ELET3) and Uruguay's UTE signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday to look for a site for a 100 MW wind park to be built by the two companies in Uruguay.
Eletrobras and UTE also discussed the installation of a new transmission line to interconnect Uruguay and Brazil, Eletrobras said in a news release on Friday. The works have already started in Uruguay, while in Brazil they still pend an environmental licence.
By 2015, a total 90% of the energy generated in Uruguay will come from renewable sources, of which 45% hydroelectric ones, 30% wind and 15% biomass, Sinval Gama, Eletrobras's superintendent of foreign operations commented during the Rio+20 UN summit on Friday.
