EIB mulls loan for 450 MW of Moroccan wind projects

Nov 8, 2013 - The European Investment Bank (EIB) may provide financial support to Morocco's public national utility for the 200-MW Essaouira, 150-MW Midelt and 100-MW Tangier wind projects.

In a statement on its website on Wednesday the bank said it was reviewing the projects without disclosing the loan amount that is under consideration. The total value of the three projects is EUR 704 million (USD 943m).

The three projects of the Office National de l'Electricite et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE) represent the second phase of the 850-MW Moroccan Wind Programme. They are in line with the government target of sourcing from wind farms 42% of Morocco’s power by the end of the decade.

At present ONEE is looking for a private investor for the projects via a competitive concession tender.
