EIB board okays EUR 1bn for clean energy projects in Europe, Asia

February 5 (Renewables Now) - The Board of the European Investment Bank (EIB) approved today plans to provide EUR 1 billion (USD 1.1bn) of financing for clean energy projects in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and other parts of Europe and Central Asia.

The list of projects to receive support from the EIB includes 18 solar schemes in Spain, renewable energy projects in Austria and Italy and transmission lines which will connect Dutch offshore wind farms to the mainland. The EIB said it will also back district heating plans in Uzbekistan.

Details on the specific projects are yet to be announced.

The EUR 1 billion in clean energy financing is part of a bigger package of EUR 4.9 billion approved today, which also includes investment in sustainable transport, high-speed communications, social housing, health and education infrastructure.
