EGE Haina to build 48-MW wind farm in Dominican Republic

June 9 (Renewables Now) - Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina SA (EGE Haina) announced on Thursday it will start this month the construction of a 48.3-MW wind farm in Barahona province.

Named Larimar 2, the park will be comprised of 14 wind turbines that will be installed next to the existing 49.5-MW Larimar wind farm, inaugurated in March 2016.

EGE Haina's general manager Marcelo Aicardi said that the company will have invested more than USD 400 million (EUR 356.6m) in renewable energy following this project.

According to the executive, Larimar is part of the company's vision of diversifying its generation through the addition of clean energy. In the last few years, EGE Haina has built three wind farms and one solar plant, adding 128.5 MW to its portfolio.
