May 7 (Renewables Now) - Renewable energy company EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) has secured a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA) in California linked to 100 MW of solar capacity.

Through its local subsidiary EDP Renewables North America LLC, the company will sell the output of its Sandrini Sol I Solar PV project, which is expected to start operations in 2022.

EDPR is majority-owned by Energias de Portugal SA (ELI:EDP), which has now contracted about 83% of its roughly 7-GW targeted capacity build-out around the world for the period through 2022. Currently, the utility has 2 GW of secured projects that are planned to be installed during that period solely in the US.

When it comes to solar power alone, EDP expects to reach 1.6 GW of installed PV by 2022, taking into consideration its already deployed plants and the 1.3 GW of contracted projects, it said.
