EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA) has commenced the construction works on the 240-MW Cattleman I Solar Park in Milam County, Texas.
The solar plant is EDPR's first in Texas and it is slated to also be the largest operational solar asset in the company's North American portfolio.
EDPR NA expects Cattleman to go online in 2023. Once up and running, the solar park will be capable of generating enough power to meet the consumption of over 37,000 local homes and will offset more than 271,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
Earlier this year, EDPR signed two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for Cattleman -- a deal with social media giant Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB) for 156 MW of the solar park's capacity and a 60-MW PPA with US drugmaker Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE: BMY).
According to previous statements made by EDPR, the company will invest some USD 280 million (EUR 280.4m) in total to build the Cattleman solar farm.
In addition to this solar project, EDPR owns and operates 1,089 MW of wind capacity in Texas, the firm noted.
