March 19 (Renewables Now) - EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) announced today that it was awarded 20-year supply contracts for a total of 492 MW of wind power in Colombia's recent auction.

More specifically, the renewables arm of Energias de Portugal SA (ELI:EDP) will deliver power from the 212-MW Aplha and 280-MW Beta wind farms, which are currently in development and are scheduled to commence commercial operation in 2022, the company said.

Colombia's tender was held under the Cargo por Confiabilidad model, aimed at ensuring supply security. Both wind farms will receive a compensation for helping the country's electrical system stability and for the electricity they generate.

EDPR will look to sign long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with third parties for the output of these plants. The company ended 2018 with an installed capacity of 5,729 MW in the Americas, including in the US and Canada.
