July 15 (Renewables Now) - Manuel Ortiz has taken office as president of EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) in Brazil.

Ortiz has been selected to replace Renato Volponi, who is leaving the company after nine years of service. During Volponi's management, EDPR managed to consolidate itself as the fourth largest renewable energy generator in the country.

The Brazilian renewables arm of Portuguese utility Energias de Portugal SA (ELI:EDP) also appointed a new vice president and a new manager of regulations and operations. Filipe Domingues and Luis Barros are taking on these jobs.

EDPR currently has installed half a gigawatt in Brazil and it recently signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 126 MW of new wind power generation.
