Eddie O’Connor leaves Mainstream’s board, Aker Horizons CEO steps in

Eddie O’Connor, founder and former CEO of Ireland-based Mainstream Renewable Power Ltd, has resigned as chairman of the board of the renewables company.

O’Connor’s resignation is effective immediately, Mainstream said on Wednesday.

The chairman seat will be filled by Kristian Rokke, the CEO of Norway’s Aker Horizons ASA (FRA:7QF), which recently finalised the purchase of a 75% stake in Mainstream.

"He began his journey to help decarbonise the world by building Ireland’s first wind farm in 1992 and over the intervening 30 years he has been a leading figure in the renewable energy industry globally,” Rokke said of his predecessor. “Eddie has played a pivotal role in helping to establish thriving renewable energy industries in a number of markets including Ireland, the UK, Chile and South Africa."

Eddie O'Connor founded the Dublin-based Mainstream in 2008, turning it into a global wind and solar power developer. He served as CEO until 2017, and as executive chairman of the board of directors afterwards.

After resigning as chairman, O'Connor will be leaving the board, the company said.
