UPDATE - EDPR, Lhyfe to jointly work on green hydrogen projects
May 24, 2022 13:27 CESTMay 13 (Renewables Now) - E-fuels multinational HIF Global announced on Thursday that it has opened an office in Berlin to lead operations of the newly-launched unit HIF Europe, Middle East and Africa (HIF EMEA).
HIF EMEA is headed by president Armin Schnettler, a veteran electrical engineer with senior management positions at ABB Ltd (STO:ABB), Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) and Siemens Energy AG (ETR:ENR). Thorsten Herdan, former director general energy in the German ministry of economy and energy, has been named as CEO.
The Berlin-based company will bring HIF Global’s e-fuels from production sites around the world to the EMEA region. This will begin with fuels produced at HIF’s Haru Oni facility in southern Chile, which is due to start operation in late 2022.
The business will also develop e-fuel projects in the region for the region, HIF Global said.
The announcement comes after HIF Global secured a location in Matagorda County, Texas, as the site of its first e-fuels facility in North America. There, the company intends to use much of the same ingredients -- wind power, captured CO2 and green hydrogen -- it will use at Haru Oni to produce e-fuels.
