The renewables unit of Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) has bought the 13-MW Victory solar power facility in Colorado from local renewables developer Juwi Inc, the energy company announced on Thursday.
"Victory is our first solar project in Colorado, where we already have an operating wind energy site," said Rob Caldwell, president of Duke Energy Renewables and Distributed Energy Technology.
Juwi’s construction affiliate JSI Construction Group LLC completed building works on the Victory plant in Adams County ahead of schedule. It started operations this week, Duke Energy said in its press statement.
The facility uses about 47,880 ground-mounted solar panels that have the combined capacity to supply some 2,600 average households. The generated electricity will be purchased by Sedalia-based Intermountain Rural Electric Association (IREA) over a period of 25 years.
