Ukrainian energy group DTEK has started commercial operations at the 240-MW Pokrovska solar farm in the home country's Dnipropetrovsk region after eight months of construction.
DTEK said Pokrovska, the company’s third solar project, represented an investment of EUR 193 million (USD 215.4m) with EUR-48-million worth of contracts being awarded to local construction specialists for goods and services.
The solar farm is located in the Nikopol district in a reclaimed former mining quarry, now covered with 840,000 solar panels supplied by China’s Risen Energy Co Ltd (SHE:300118).
Pokrovska will generate an estimated 400,000 MWh per year, which is enough electricity to supply 200,000 private households, DTEK said.
The new solar farm started generating power in October.
