Dominion Energy calls 500-MW solar RfP in Virginia

August 7 (Renewables Now) - Dominion Energy Virginia, part of US utility Dominion Energy Inc (NYSE:D), has issued a solicitation for up to 500 MW of solar generation commissioned in 2021 and 2022.

The Request for Proposals (RFP) was released on Monday and targets proposals for energy volumes, capacity and environmental attributes, including Renewable Energy Certificates, from new solar plants. The purchase of development projects is also included. Projects are required to be located in Virginia and be larger than 5 MW. 

The notices of intent to bid and confidentiality agreements can be submitted by August 15, 2019. The deadlines for final asset purchase and power purchase proposals are October 3, 2019 and January 16, 2020, respectively.

The RfP supports Dominion Energy in the pursuit of its goal of having 3 GW of solar and wind energy in operation or under development by 2022 in Virginia. The company  currently has 30 solar power plants totalling 884 MW in operation or under construction in the state.

Domonion is working to cut its carbon footprint by 80% by 2050 across the 18 states it operates in.
