July 10 (Renewables Now) - The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Mines and Energy announced on Monday that the concessions for renewable projects will be awarded through a bidding process.

This plan will allow the government to promote the orderly development of renewable energies. Under the new guidelines, the State will decide what kind of green technology it wants, in what quantity and where it wants it, and then launch tenders, Minister Antonio Isa Conde said.

As regards to companies that are already in the process of installing capacities, a protocol will be drawn up that will define the next steps in securing their power purchase agreements (PPAs). This protocol will also detail the treatment of firms that have been operating without PPAs, the ministry noted.
