US solar machinery maker Despatch Industries said today it will supply several Safire firing furnaces to a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chinese solar monocrystalline silicon producer Xi’an Longi Silicon Materials (SHA:601012).
Longi’s unit, mono crystalline cells and modules manufacturer Lerri Solar Technology, will use the furnaces in a 2-GW expansion of its production capacity, according to a press statement from Despatch.
The US company has received an order from Lerri to deliver furnaces featuring dual, independent chambers with no lane-to-lane influences. In addition, the purchased furnaces will come with PowerLock technology that suppresses light induced degradation (LID) on passivated emitter rear contact (PERC) cells down to about 1% from 3% to 6%.
At present, Lerri has the capacity to produce some 4.5 GW of wafers, 400 MW of cells and 1.5 GW of modules per year.
