Aug 14, 2013 - UK-based technology group DEK Solar and Chinese photovoltaics (PV) maker Yingli Green Energy Holding Co Ltd (NYSE:YGE) announced that the will jointly pursue solar technology upgrades at the Yingli Solar State Key Lab.
On August 9, the two companies celebrated the set up of a joint research centre. As part of the collaboration, the lab will use a DEK Solar Apollo metallisation line for research and development activities related to metallisation technology and solar panels, DEK said in a statement.
The lab is located at Yingli’s main production complex in Baoding, China’s Hebei province. According to Brian Lau, head of process support products and commercial management at DEK, the Yingli State Key Lab activities will help boost PV product efficiency and cut the overall manufacturing expenses.
Recently, NPD Solarbuzz said is a report that Yingli is “rapidly approaching” a worldwide market share of 10%. It is already the number-one company in shipments. The market research firm calculates that PV module shipments globally had jumped 21% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2013 to 5,800 MW, including some 800 MW for Yingli.
