Transmission system operator (TSO) Energinet.dk is proposing to change tariffs so as to make sure all grid costs in Denmark are spread evenly and fairly, including among solar system owners.
The company explained that roughly 90,000 small solar power producers do not pay enough for the grid so other electricity consumers bear the burden. As part of the new tariff proposal, which is subject to comments, these solar customers will see a combined increase of about DKK 30 million (USD 4.45m/EUR 4m) in annual grid and system tariffs, while other electricity consumers will see their cost decline. The annual charge for a typical solar power system owner will increase by between DKK 300 and DKK 400, the TSO said.
Certain industrial plants will also face higher grid charges of Energinet.dk’s plan gets the green light. It pointed out that it will not get any profit from the increase in rates.
Denmark currently has about 800 MW of installed solar power generation capacity. Energinet.dk recently said the total may grow to 7.5 GW by 2040, thanks to an expected rise in residential deployment.
