A scoping and screening opinion has been submitted in May with Anglesey County Council in Wales for a solar park of 40 MW-50 MW, developed by Countryside Renewables Capital.
A full planning application is expected later this year for the photovoltaic (PV) project at Llanbadrig. ERW Consulting is acting on behalf of the developer.
Primrose Solar’s 48-MW Southwick solar power plant in southern England is touted as the UK's biggest operational PV farm. If built, Countryside Renewables’ project in Wales may get that title.
Another scoping and screening opinion for a 5-MW solar farm in Gwalchmai, again in Anglesey, has also been filed last month. According to council documents, the applicant is renewables major SunEdison.
According to figures by the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC), UK's installed solar PV capacity has reached 6.56 GW at the end of April 2015. This compares to 5.24 GW at end-December 2014. The first quarter was especially hot as developers rushed to complete 5-MW-plus projects ahead of planned changes to the Renewables Obligation (RO) scheme.
