(ADPnews) - Sep 15, 2010 - French silicon-on-insulator (SOI) maker Soitec (EPA:SOI) today announced that its German subsidiary, concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) equipment provider Concentrix Solar GmbH, entered the Transgreen Initiative, aimed at supplying Europe with solar energy produced in the Sahara desert.
Transgreen is part of the Mediterranean Solar Plan to build 20 GW of solar facilities on the south shore of the Mediterranean by 2020.
Concentrix Solar's systems do not need water for cooling and are therefore suitable for installation in arid areas, Soitec said.
Concentrix Solar is a spin-off of the German research centre Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and has been a subsidiary of Soitec since December 2009. The company operates a fully automated industrial production line in Freiburg, Germany, with an annual production capacity of 25 MW.
