Dec 13, 2012 - Brazil's agricultural supply company Conab yesterday said it had revised upwards its projection for the country's ethanol production in the current 2012/13 crop year to 23.62 billion litres (6.239bn gallons) from the previously estimated 23.49 billion litres.
When compared to the 2011/12 crop year, the projection for Brazil's total ethanol output, thus, would translate into a 5.22% drop.
Conab cut its earlier estimate for hydrous ethanol production by 2.17%, while boosting that for anhydrous ethanol output by 4.88%.
Hence, hydrous and anhydrous ethanol output volumes are now expected to decline by 8% and 0.88% year-on-year to 13.96 billion litres and 9.66 billion litres, respectively.
Although Conab also slightly trimmed its prior projection for the sugar cane crushing volumes in 2012/13 to 595.13 million tonnes from 596.63 million tonnes announced in August, the new estimate still corresponds to an yearly expansion of 6.2%.
Brazil's largest sugar cane producing region, Centre-South, on the other hand, is expected to process more than before -- 535 million tonnes versus 530.5 million tonnes projected by Conab in August.
