September 10 (Renewables Now) - US solar and storage developer Clenera LLC has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for its Rustic Hills solar project in Warrick County, Indiana, with Hoosier Energy, the parties said on Thursday.

The project, with an expected capacity of 120 MW direct current (DC), will move into construction once necessary authorisation and permits have been received. It is projected to come online by the end of 2023.

This is the first PPA between Hoosier Energy and Clenera, which was recently acquired by Israeli renewables developer Enlight Renewable Energy Ltd (TLV:ENLT).

"This collaboration continues our transition of Hoosier Energy's resource portfolio to a much higher percentage of renewable sources," said Hoosier Energy president and chief executive Donna Walker. It comes after Hoosier Energy last year announced plans to retire its only remaining coal-fired power plant by May 2023.

Hoosier Energy is a generation and transmission cooperative that provides power to 18 member distribution cooperatives serving more than 760,000 consumers in central and southern Indiana and southeastern Illinois.

The Rustic Hills solar park is expected to generate electricity equivalent to the demand of over 17,000 homes.
