Chromasun deploys hybrid solar panel with integrated solar thermal cooling system
Dec 12, 2011 - US rooftop solar solutions provider Chromasun last week said it had installed a hybrid photovoltaic (PV)/solar thermal panel with integrated solar thermal cooling system in San Jose, California.
The system, which was mounted in September, produces electricity using the sun's energy and diverts waste heat to drive an absorption chiller. This is the first installation of its kind in the world, according to Chromasun.
The new hybrid technologies harvest 75% of the sun's energy, compared to 15% by conventional PV panels, Chromasun's CEO Peter Le Lievre said.
The project follows a PV receiver research and development provided by Chromasun with the Australian National University and the University of South Wales.
Chromasun plans to introduce its new hybrid collectors in 2012.
