September 13 (Renewables Now) - Six Chinese and just one European firm are present in the top 10 solar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) ranking for 2017 by IHS Markit.

Spanish company Prodiel, which ranked fifth, said its success is due to its internationalisation process, started in 2013 and resulting in a twentyfold increase in business volume.

In 2017, the world added 99.1 GW of new photovoltaic (PV) power capacity, of which China’s share was 53.3%, according to trade body SolarPower Europe. The presence of so many Chinese company in the EPC ranking thus does not come as a surprise. Chinese company TBEA SunOasis Co remained at the top position in the list, with a market share of 2% when combining internal development and third-party EPC. The other Chinese EPC leaders are Sungrow, Power China, Beijing Enterprises Clean Energy Group, EDRI 11th Institute and Xinyi Solar.

Three Indian companies were also among the top 10 -- Sterling & Wilson, Tata Power and Greenko.
