March 14 (Renewables Now) - China-based Sany Group Co Ltd has, through an affiliate, teamed up with a subsidiary of Indiana-headquartered Star Energy Holdings LLC to add 1 GW of wind power capacity in North America.

Sany said in a press release today that Ralls Corp and Star Wind LLC will develop internally and build the wind projects over the next five years. The plants will secure long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with utility, industrial and commercial power users, Sany added.

The Chinese group’s subsidiary Sany Heavy Energy Equipment Co is a manufacturer of both onshore and offshore wind turbines. Its products will be used in the planned wind projects, according to the announcement.

No further project-related details were given.
