February 13 (Renewables Now) - China's JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd (NYSE:JKS) remains at the top of the global photovoltaic (PV) module shipment ranking for the second year in a row, according to GlobalData.
In 2019, JinkoSolar was first in the world in terms of solar panel shipments with 14.2 GW, up 25% from 2018. It was followed by another Chinese manufacturer, JA Solar Technology Co Ltd (SHE:002459) with 10.3 GW, 17% higher on the year. Trina Solar Ltd, LONGi Solar Technology Co Ltd and Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ) made up the rest of the top five companies.
The first seven positions were unchanged from 2018, while there was only one new company in the top 10, US First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR), which took the eighth spot after falling to the 11th in 2018.
Overall, shipments by the top 10 manufacturers amounted to about 80.3 GW of modules, 27% higher than in 2018. The companies in the top 10 are expected to account for over 75% of global shipments this year.
“Chinese manufacturers will continue to dominate as the overall leader in solar installations in 2020 as newer emerging markets in SE Asia, Latin America and the Middle East mark their presence on the solar map as demand centers. China, the US, Europe and India will continue to remain the major markets for the solar module suppliers,” practice head of power at GlobalData, Ankit Mathur, commented.
