Chile's Colbun to supply renewable power to cement co Polpaico

Colbun, Polpaico signing of 10-year PPA

December 26 (Renewables Now) - Chilean cement maker Cemento Polpaico SA signed last week a long-term renewable power supply contract with local power company Colbun.

Through the agreement, Colbun will be supplying to Cemento a total of 183 GWh of 100% renewable electricity per year. Polpaico's press release did not specify the sources.

The contract, with a term of 10 years, has two steps. First, starting from January 1, 2019, Polpaico will be receiving green power for its Cerro Blanco and Coronel plants, that represent 93% of its total demand. In 2022 more facilities will be added, achieving the 100% mark.

In addition to meeting its energy needs with green sources, the cement firm will also implement energy efficiency measures in its production processes, it said.
