Chilean platform Zona Energia launches private renewables tender

Deal, business, corporate contracts

January 8 (Renewables Now) - Chilean energy platform Zona Energia will this year hold a private renewables tender seeking to broker competitive contracts for the supply of clean power on behalf of large consumers.

The registration process, which started on January 1, 2020, is open to Chile's free-market customers until June 30 this year. According to information available on Zona Energia’s website, the bidding will take place in the second half of 2020.

Zona Energia says its tender is the “best alternative on the market”, promising the registrants that they stand to procure certified renewable power at lower prices compared to what they already pay.

The participants can choose when the electricity supply can start and time it to the expiration of their current contracts as long as it is during 2021 and 2022, the rules state. Customers can terminate the awarded contract either on March 31, 2026, or on March 31, 2027.

Zona Energia says all free-market customers have to do is send information about their power consumption and the platform will take care of the rest. This service includes providing the certificate that proves that the contracted electricity is supplied from 100% renewable sources.

“The Chilean law dictates a target of 20% renewable energy by 2024. Our customers demand 100% today”, Zona Energia has stated.
