December 23 (Renewables Now) - Chile’s National Energy Commission (CNE) this week published the terms and conditions of the country’s 2021 power auction through which it will seek to place 2,310 GWh per year for a period of 15 years.
According to the CNE timetable, the call for tenders will be issued today, December 23. National and international power generation companies are invited to present their offers on May 28, while the award and announcement of the results will take place on June 22, 2021.
The goal of the auction is to secure a supply of electricity for residential and SME customers from January 2026 through December 2040. The contracted power can be provided by any type of plant, including energy storage units. Projects for new generating plants are also eligible, provided that promoters submit a Gantt chart.
The off-takers will be qualified power distributors, which, according to CNE, are projected to be facing shortages between 2026 and 2034.
