Chile to stimulate small-scale renewables in regions
Chile will strengthen the capacity of regional governments and municipalities for development of small-scale renewable energy projects through a programme presented in the Los Rios region on Monday.
The programme will be designed based on pilot activity in two regions, Los Rios and Antofagasta, with CLP 640 million (USD 996,000/EUR 911,000) from the government and co-financing from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The government will first identify the local needs regarding project management and will then provide training, including the elaboration of feasible pilot projects and technical assistance for their future development in the first two regions, Pablo Diaz from the energy ministry said.
The programme aims to improve the access to electricity through clean energy installations, reducing fuel costs.
