Jul 4, 2014 - Chile's 99-MW Taltal wind park in Antofagasta region has been 60% completed until now and will be operational in September, the energy ministry said Wednesday.
Italian company Enel Green Power (BIT:EGPW) is installing 33 wind turbines to produce over 300 GWh a year for the SIC system, the main grid in Chile. The output is equivalent to the demand of 170,000 local families and could offset emissions of over 200,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2).
The park is built on 74.5 ha (184 acres), a state-owned plot which the company won at an auction in 2012.
Antofagasta currently has 44 renewable energy projects, environmentally approved, that will generate a total 6,891 MW, the ministry's regional representative, Arturo Molina, said during a visit to the Taltal construction site.
