Chile gets 93 requests for co-financing to renewable energy studies

Jul 2, 2014 - Chile's government has received 93 applications for co-financing of renewable energy studies for new plants of up to 50 MW and power lines, the energy ministry's Renewable Energy Centre (CER) said Monday.

The state invited local firms to compete for a total CLP 560 million (USD 1m/EUR 741,000), offering to co-finance up to 40% per study.

The funds will support pre-investment and advanced studies on power generation units, as well as studies on new power lines that could simultaneously connect several clean energy units to the local networks.

Chile's insufficient grid infrastructure is among the main obstacles for renewable energy projects, such as small hydroelectric plants.
