Chile approves USD 235m wind power project in Los Lagos
Aug 4, 2011 - The environmental committee of Chile's southern Los Lagos region has this week approved a USD 235 million (EUR 164.8m) wind power project of local renewable energy firm Ecopower.
The Chiloe wind farm will have 56 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 112 MW, to be installed on a 40 ha (98.8 acres) plot on the Chiloe island.
With this and other approved projects, Chiloe will stop importing and will start exporting electricity to the mainland, as the island consumes 60 MW, Los Lagos' intendant, Juan Sebastian Montes, said.
