Chile approves 66 MW Punta Palmeras wind power project

Dec 19, 2012 - The environmental committee of Chile's Coquimbo region on Monday approved the updated Punta Palmeras wind power project that will be developed in Canela municipality with an installed capacity of 66 MW.

The project, proposed by Spanish renewable energy company Acciona (MCE:ANA) through a local subsidiary, will respond to the growing power demand of the industry and residents within Chile's main network SIC.

The project is estimated at USD 150 million (EUR 113.3m) and consists of 22 turbines. The original project, which included 69 turbines of 103.5 MW, was revised to improve the size, design and technology and reduce the production costs.
